Selfishness is inherited

It all makes sense now to me, it does it does. It really does. As a middle aged laowai, I have a simple medical procedure to attend to in early January.  Something all men sooner or later in America have to go through once they reach a certain age.  Well, I’ve reached mine, and know it’s time for Doc to stick something up my ass for a look see.  No biggie (knock on wood!).  The procedure is as such:  China Wife has to stay during the 20-30 minute long process.  Than they wake me up, I get dressed, and I go home. Now, the last time I had outpatient stuff going on, China Wife cried .  (Probably because it slammed the door on her ever getting a son.) Though it’s only a twenty minute or so wait, China Wife no happy.  Not thrilled at all.  I ask her to just “take a half day off”.   It’s January, right?  She has all her vacation days.  “Can’t you just use half a freakin’ half day for me?  Its medical work you know?  Or just tell your boss you’ll come in late?” “I want to

Trust me on this one, you'll be eating more Chinese food than you know....

Quite some time ago I wrote a piece about the distaste Chinese have for American food.  Rather, in my view how simplistic their interpretation of American food is.  (I could write the same about Hot Pot, too.)  Still, through time, the meaning to me has become clear;  if one is to fall in love with China Girl, one must master Chinese food.  The palate, the taste, perhaps even the ability to cook it .   For if one cannot do this, one will find a barrier created between the laowai and China Girl that simply cannot be “eaten away”.  Asian culture, more than those of us situated in the vast “West”, considers its food a unique identifier of itself.  The Chinese in particular, are proud to be part of a culture very much identified  by its  fondness and knowledge of food more so than anywhere else(with the obvious exception of India). The differences in food available within China are analogous to the differences in dialect.   Case in point; America is a nation of 300 million pe

Everyone is now paying attention to Australia.....

Hi everyone, a bit late commenting on this, but its a big deal .  Simply because a country predominantly with Western values is changing before our eyes, transforming into something else, and like a boy in puberty, is not sure how to react to those changes. Here are the two links to the previous posts I've written about this. I am NOT saying those changes are bad! Chinese People are cool....however, as I've said before in this blog, get ready for two things to happen: Your real estate will go up, and lots of folks will make money. Your middle class will be wiped out(like ours) as the best and brightest of China, along with the richest flood your high schools. They will up the ante in terms of academic competition, ruining the whole damn high school "experience" for everyone. A kid that would have been a valedictorian merely a decade ago will be maybe only top twenty in his class now. Anyway, Australia is economically turning into China'

Quick take on North Korea

Once again I find I’m forced to stop what I’m doing to get something off my chest.  Silliness intervenes. The post I wanted to write will simply have to wait.  What I’m writing about is ludicrous I know, but even more so when I feel I must spend precious time addressing a topic that is so beaten and worn down that nobody would even place a bet towards the actuality of it even taking place. This may be one of the least read posts of my blog.  I’m referring to the Trump Insanity of which those of us in America must all live with.  In this instance, the daily drumbeat of actually going to war with North Korea.  Led into war of course by an immature and somewhat mentally incapacitated President.   Enabled by more than a few. I feel guilty when I admit I do have a perverse emotional pleasure of annihilating a country and every army that stands in the way, if that is what it takes to give a dictator his comeuppance.  (Pretty easy to say as I sit here on my sofa with a nice coffee

"America's too tough for me"

It’s hard being an only child from China living in America.  The daughter of a very high ranking government official and a mom that judges her son in law purely on how much he makes and the background of his parents.    You’d think China Wife grew up a tad lonely, no?  Uh-oh. If you remember, China Wife had no regrets growing up an only child.  She got everything she wanted, she claimed. And now she’s in America, caught up in a very large sea of other Chinese, flotsam all, in what is the most ethnic country in the history of mankind.   America has more immigrants per percentage of population than ever before.  The downside? China Wife has gone from being a “somebody” in China to being a “nobody” here.   Like many, many others, I’m sure it’s taken a lot to get used to. But this is no country for China Wife.  Here she must work a so-so job, for a boss with half her talent, who’s never been to China and has no interest of ever going to China.  On top of that her l

"I want a married man".....

She’s tall and dark, with the long hair to match.   She likes using that SW that is all the rage in China that helps China Girl look lighter than she is.   She’ll talk in a matter of fact way.  About China Guy taking her and her friends out to the club, spending their wads on a table and booze.   But China Girl goes home alone. She gets harassed by China Guys.  She blocks them, but never without a warning. Over the past ten years she has transformed from a mere college student(I didn’t realize I was pretty until I was in University), to having to simply say to China Guy(“you need to change your target”, cause it won’t be me). China Guy has tried to “pick her up” at the real estate office, and even simply while walking down the street, exiting the front gate of her apartment.  She was offered a job in Shanghai while simply window shopping.  “They wanted to take photos of my legs”, she exclaimed excitedly. Once she answered the phone during a casual walk only to be met wit

Why China needs SpaceX to fail

Several years ago the United States pointedly told Europe, Russia and Japan that regarding the building of the current Space Station in space and global cooperation that China could go “take a hike”.   America, right or wrong, was so convinced that China would use any and all technology gained from others during the construction and manning of the Space Station for its own military gain, that America bluntly excluded China from any involvement in the program.  It was in effect, “us or them”.   Chinese citizens are not even allowed to enter NASA facilities. One wonders now what the reply would be if America gave a similar ultimatum today? When the International Space Station began operations in 2000, Putin had only just become defacto leader of Russia.   ISS was agreed to during the tenure of Yeltsin.  If established during Putin’s reign, would he have agreed to excluding China?   And of course, with the perceived decline of America and perceived rise of China, one can wi

I tell myself it is not as bad as it seems...

(I'm two thirds complete with a new post, when upon after a few days of reflection the feeling just hit me to write this.  My other post will be next up.) This is a tough time for America.  Right now.  This moment.  I profess to not understanding what my readers in Russia, or Cambodia or Laos go through.   No idea.  Every country has its own struggles.  But like you and how you feel about your own situation in your country, I’m sure our struggles in America right now are unique. Living in America is living in the world’s largest reality show.   Something life Flavor Flav…”Flavor of Love”.   I fucking loved that show and I recommend to everyone to figure out a way to watch it.   It was sad watching semi respectable women slut themselves out for a chance to bed their way to marriage with Flavor Flav.  And I ate it up.    Still, if I was the last man on Earth and lived in a cave after the apocalypse I’d be content watching that show.   What possessed women to act that way?
